I have just read on CathNews that the Australian Bishops' Conference are planning a National Youth Ministry Conference for October 2010.

This looks like a good event. The article gives far more details:

Convention to gather youth ministry leaders from around Australia

The inaugural Australian Catholic Youth Ministry Convention (ACYMC), to be held at ACU Melbourne from October 1-3, has gathered a range of gifted presenters and key leaders from youth ministry, education, religious orders, movements and other groups working with young people from around Australia.

This event, organised by the ACBCs Bishops’ Commission for Pastoral Life (BCPL), will offer keynote presentations from Australian bishops and international speakers. It will also include 40 workshops, a youth ministry expo, musicians and performers, networking opportunities and much more.

‘The ACYMC can now announce a number of workshop presenters who will break open topics pertinent to the growth of youth ministry in Australia.’ said Malcolm Hart, BCPL, Senior Youth Ministry Projects Officer.

‘Engaging and experienced youth ministers such as Fr Chris Ryan (Missionaries of God’s Love), Ms Rhonda O'Connor (St Francis Xavier College) and Michael Hart (Brisbane Archdiocesan Youth Ministry Coordinator,) will bring a wealth of wisdom to reflect on elements of the Australian Catholic youth ministry vision, Anointed and Sent.’

‘Additional speakers such as Fr Peter Williams (ACBC Commission for Liturgy) Dr Phillip Hughes (Christian Research Australia) and Ms Chantelle Ogilvie (Justice and Peace Office, Archdiocese of Sydney) will discuss what elements of their own ministries are essential to ministry with young people’ said Mr Hart.

Fr Chris Ryan, Missionaries of God’s Love Priest and coordinator of the WYD08 Cross and Icon pilgrimage in 2007/2008, shared his excitement about being a part of the ACYMC in October.

‘The program, workshops and line up of presenters shows that the Church in Australia is really seeking to build upon the spirit of WYD08 and that the Australian bishops are continuing to support and nurture young people in the life of the church’, said Fr Chris.

‘Youth ministers will find the ACYMC an excellent opportunity for formation and a rare chance to gather with so many experienced and gifted youth ministers from around Australia’, he said.

Mr Hart identified that early bird registration closes on July 30th. Full registration will close on September 10th.

Further details of the Convention including, a full list of presenters, workshop options, and registration are now available at www.acymc.org
