Here is our latest resource offering. This is a checklist for those organising large Masses.

I had the idea of putting this together because whenever I run a large Mass, I always forget something. Hence, lists always come in handy.

I'm sure we've forgotten something from this list. If so, let us know and we will update it for future versions.

EDIT December 3rd: Version 2 uploaded, with updates!

Hi,

Great resource!

To the list of people I would add 'people to bring up the bread and wine'.

Also in the list of items there should be a crucifix 'on the altar or near it' (GIRM 308).

There is a really useful resource on the Liturgy Office website for Masses with large groups (ie really big groups!) It is a good reminder of those things that could get forgotten - http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Resources/Preparation/index.shtml

Quite a list.

Incense and thurible? (if only we didn't have smoke detectors)

Bell?

Flowers (plastic)

Banners / posters

For big masses i would have a detailed order of service for the priest.  A folder if needed.

Maybe it's just me but I would normally only put bread (ciboria) and wine on the offertory table, every thing else on the credence table.

Risk assessment forms.

All good points...

How do you risk assess a Mass though, I wonder...?

Risk: Risk of Christ becoming physically present on the altar
Degree of Risk: High
Who is affected by this risk: All of creation
Control Measure: None

Risk: Priest preaching a little bit too long
Degree of Risk: Moderate
Who is affected: The congregation
Control measure: Mess around with his mic!!

Risk: Breaking a guitar string
Degree of risk: Depends on the song
Who is affected: The guitarist and anyone who hears him swearing down the mic
Control measure: Have a spare guitar tuned and ready to go

Risk: Young Person gets a fit of the giggles while reading
Degree of risk: Low to moderate
Who is affected: The young person when I get my hands on him afterwards
Control measure: Get sensible young person to read

Ah, I could go on all night with this... sleep now!!
