We are about to enter the United Nations International Year for Youth. For some reason, I have only just discovered this. Maybe their publicity has been a bit rubbish, or maybe I'm just a bit late to the party.
Either way, it looks very interesting. It runs from August 12 2010 - August 11 2011.
There is, of course, a website:
http://social.un.org/youthyear/Here's what they are saying about it:
“The International Year is about advancing the full and effective participation of youth in all aspects of society. We encourage all sectors of society to work in partnership with youth and youth organizations to better understand their needs and concerns and to recognize the contributions that they can make to society."Hopefully this year will be accompanied by some good resources, activities and ways to link up the youth of the world.
It goes without saying that the UN have some agendas that the Catholic Church can't and won't get on board with. Therefore our participation in this year will not be without its conditions. But still... it looks like a fantastic event.
